QR Table Ordering in Practice: From Scan to Kitchen in 40 Seconds

15 July 2026 · TotalBiz POS Team

What actually happens when a guest scans the code on table 12 — the full journey through menu, modifiers, payment, kitchen routing and loyalty.

The scan

A guest sits down in the courtyard, scans the QR talker, and your full menu opens in their browser — no app, no signup wall. The code is table-specific, so the system already knows where the food goes. Photos, dietary tags and honest descriptions do the selling your busiest waiter doesn't have time for.

The order

Two taps on a laksa, one forced modifier (protein choice), an optional add-on prompt (roti, $4). Average order values rise on QR menus for a simple reason: every upsell is offered every time, politely, without a queue forming. The guest pays at table or starts a tab — their choice, your rules.

The kitchen

The order lands on the KDS 40 seconds after the scan, routed to the wok station, allergen flags intact, alongside every staff-taken order in the same queue. There is no separate 'online orders' printer gathering chaos in a corner — QR is just another way orders enter one system.

The data

The guest pays, earns loyalty points automatically, and joins your customer database — visit logged, spend recorded, birthday captured if they opted in. Compare that with a marketplace order, where the platform keeps the customer and sells them your competitor next week. Same laksa; completely different business outcome.
