Launching Your Own Ordering App: The First 90 Days
20 June 2026 · TotalBiz POS Team
What actually happens after a venue launches branded app ordering — adoption tactics, the metrics that matter, and the 90-day trajectory.
Days 1–14: seed it with regulars
The first users aren't strangers — they're the faces you already know. Counter cards with a QR to download, staff mentioning 'order ahead next time, skip the queue', and double loyalty points on first app order. Early adopters are your regulars formalised.
Days 15–45: make direct the obvious choice
Every marketplace order costs you commission; every app order doesn't. Pass a slice of that saving back: app-only combo pricing, a free side over $40, priority pickup times. Customers follow value — give them a visible reason and volume shifts without a single confrontation with the platforms.
Days 46–90: push notifications, used sparingly
One good offer a week outperforms daily noise. Rainy Tuesday lunch push to office workers within 2km; new menu drop to your top 100 spenders first. Because the app rides on your own customer data, targeting is real, not spray-and-pray.
The 90-day picture
The pattern venues see: app orders start as single digits daily, then become the default for the regular core — the highest-frequency, highest-lifetime-value slice of the customer base, ordering commission-free, on channel you own outright. The marketplace listing becomes what it should have been all along: an acquisition tool, not a landlord.
